What is a Chicago Dog...that's what my son asked after seeing it on the menu at Dylan's Candy Bar. Instantly I felt bad, he doesn't know what a Chicago dog is? How had I not introduce them before? Well, I had to rectify that situation immediately.
If your tagline is Dawg-Gone Good Food, you better be able to back it up. We wanted to find out during our recent trip to Chicago, so we headed over to Devil Dawgs, 767 S. State St., Chicago IL 60605.
When I saw the words hand-cut fries in neon lit up in the front window my mouth began to salivate. Fries are my weakness. Let's just say that was a good sign in more ways then one.

BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with fries
|
Sorry guys, these are not the best pictures because we just started eating and almost forgot about pics. The sharable Bucket "O" Fries - $3.25, were awesome! They use skin-on hand cut Idaho russet potatoes, which were cooked perfectly, just until firm. They were awesome and I prefer them hot and fresh or not at all.... they delivered big time.
Amazing steak burger sliders, in particular the double BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, with Applewood bacon, cheese, lettuce and pickles - $3.99. We ordered one with a bun and the other lettuce wrapped, both were fantastic.
Chicago-style hot dog |
On the menu you'll find all beef, locally made hot dogs including but not limited to coney-chilli cheese dogs, southern slaw dogs and more. We were there to try the Chicago Dog; which typically comes outfitted with mustard, onions, relish, pickle, tomato, sport peppers, celery salt and poppy seed bun - $3.35. My son didn't get all the traditional toppings on his dog, but he enjoyed the version he ordered above.

We were starving and decided to eat-in, but the establishment is set-up more for take out. Although, they have a little seating available it wasn't ideal for eating in with kids. Unbeknownst to us they didn't have a public restroom, so in the middle of our meal I had to leave to take my little one to the restroom. I ended up having to run up and down the street trying to find a public restroom. Luckily we were able to talk ourselves into a gym that allowed her to use their facilities. That was a bit stressful, so in the future it might be best to get our grub to go. Nonetheless, this is fabulous fun food at it's finest and we'll be back.
