Review: Dylan's Candy Bar - Chicago!

Does this look like a sweet place to spend an afternoon or what?

Hanging out in Chicago has been quite a treat, so I decided to make it a delicious outing by surprising the kids with lunch and sugar at Dylan's Candy Bar, 445 N. Michigan Avenue 60611.

This candy-coated wonderland didn't waste any time bringing the sugar rush, they offered samples at the door.

Dylan's colorful café patio.

Our first stop was the café for lunch. The combined bar/café is enclosed in glass and flooded with natural light from the large picture windows, which makes for a bright and welcoming atmosphere. It's small, but cute, with candy land colors and high and low seating options.

Best seats in the house.

Aren't those the cutest little peppermint stools at the bar?

The Drinks:

In addition to the full bar, they also offer lots of delicious drink options including mock tails (non-alcoholic mixed drink beverages), milkshakes, dessert drinks and all the usual carbonated options. The littles couldn't choose, so our server made a special concoction that didn't disappoint. Anything with cotton candy, candy nerds and pink lemonade is a good choice, as far as these three were concerned.

A toast to the good life, cheers kiddos!

The Food:

My little princess gave the savory mac-n-cheese high praise. The food was pretty good, similar quality to an Applebee's or T.G.I Fridays.

The oldest chose the chicken quesadilla, with chicken, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, diced peppers, onions and tomatoes on a flour tortilla with a side of sour cream and guacamole.

When I saw the Chicago dog on the menu, I realized the kids had never tried a Chicago style hot dog before; instantly I knew my son would love it.

Well, from the looks of his plate, I was right! Let's just say, he liked it so much he asked to go out for Chicago dogs later for dinner. That's what travel is all about, trying new things. We all enjoyed our lunch and were ready to explore the candy options at Dylan's.

OMG, look at all that candy! That's exactly what this girl, said about 20 times during our visit.

So many options... what to choose?

They even had candy inspired clothes, pajamas, pillows, slippers, accessories and just about everything you could think of.

The view from the spiral stairs. You have to check out both levels, because this place is truly a candy wonderland with something for everyone.

Fudge anyone?

Lollipop, lollipop!

This is a great place to shop for unique gifts as well. You can even make a 3D portrait of your loved ones out of candy at the 3D Magic Candy station.

I worked at a candy store while in college, and my favorite thing to do there was make gifts and baskets. It was so much fun and allows you to zero in and personalize. Dylan's makes that so easy because they have everything in one place  for any occasion..

Jelly Belly jelly beans are one of my all time favorite candies and watermelon is my favorite flavor.

Pick your candy and your color. Super cool, eliminates buying bags and picking out specific colors.

They even had a Famous Favorites Wall, where you could see what celebs favorite candies are.

I like fruit slices too, Lady O. It's interesting to see who likes what.

Sometimes vintage candies are hard to find, but don't worry... Dylan's has an entire room dedicated to all the retro favorites of yester year.

Look what they found on our way out. As if these kids needed anymore sweets.

I had to draw the line at ice cream, but it was a cute little ice cream shop.

Ok, I caved and let them have a sample!

What a grand surprise for the kids. We enjoyed lunch and had a great time checking out all the cool stuff at Dylan's Candy Bar. It was hard to choose, but each kiddo picked a few sugary confections to enjoy as we continued our Chicago adventure. Looking forward to coming back again soon and checking out other locations during our travels!
