Review: Fat Matt's Rib Shack, Atlanta, Georgia

Fat Matt's Rib Shack is my husbands favorite place to eat in Atlanta and the reason's are plentiful. The food is the bomb and perfectly priced for a college student or families. Go for the food and stay for the music. Featuring live bands nightly, located at 1811 Piedmont Ave. NE Atlanta, GA 30324.

They have ribs so tender the meat falls of the bone, chicken and chopped pork too. You can order platters with two sides and bread, or on sandwiches. I have to share a list of the sides because over the years I've tried a number of different combinations.

  • Rum baked beans
  • Potato Salad
  • Cole Slaw
  • Potato Chips
  • Brunswick Stew
  • Mac n Cheese
  • Collard Greens
  • Roasted Peanuts
  • Pies (Sweet Potato or Pecan)

What We Ate:

(2) Whole and a half slab of ribs platters with collard greens and macaroni cheese and bread.

(2) Half chicken platters with collard greens and macaroni and cheese and bread. We also, ordered a couple extra sides of macaroni because the 4-year-old thinks she can live off mac-n-cheese alone.

I've eaten ribs here many times over the past 19 years and it's always been a memorable experience of great food and music. The portions are huge and I've never finished an entire meal in one sitting, but these days there aren't any leftovers because the little crumb snatchers will get to it first. The best part is the kids actually love eating here too. We've trained them up to know good BBQ! There was no complaining of too much fat on the ribs or that they were too tough to chew.

Everyone ate until they were sleepy. What more can I say? Good food, good night!
