Review: SLS Las Vegas

My husband and I really enjoy Las Vegas and we've been many times over the years. We've stayed at hotels and resorts on and off the strip, but during our most recent working vacation, we stayed at the SLS Las Vegas, A Tribute Portfolio Resort, 2535 Las Vegas Blvd. South Las Vegas, Nevada, 89109.

Five star, four star, three star two...which do you prefer when traveling? Above all else, my main requirement is cleanliness, but that doesn't mean it has to be five star every time.

The SLS met that cleanliness requirement and so much more. It has the feel of a boutique establishment and the sophistication of a five star resort. The SLS has so far been the best deal we've ever found for a resort in Vegas outside of comped rooms, which are always great if you can get it. It's a Starwood resort and as a Starwood member, I received a promotional email offer. This was an offer I simply couldn't refuse. We booked eight nights in a World Superior King room for $645, including nightly resort fees of $35. Some nightly rates were as low as $39. Gotta love that!

The Room Decor
The resort decor is very modern and chic. The tower rooms are decked out with floor to ceiling mirrors, all white furniture and a pink, black and white color scheme. The rooms are more on the small size, 360 square feet, but that was fine for us because we didn't spend much time there besides sleeping and the beds and pillows were quite comfortable.

Another added bonus is that they make safety a priority. There are staff members placed at elevator entrances checking room key cards to make sure random people don't have access to guest-only floors.

Not only was it a great deal, but the resort has something for everyone: pools, night club, casino, sports book, restaurants, shops and spa. The resort is located on the north end of the strip, but further away from the hustle and bustle found at the center of the strip. This location was great for us because we like being away from the crowds sometimes, but when we wanted to be in the mix there was a monorail stop attached to the resort. It was also easy to grab an Uber or Lyft up the strip.

The Casino
When you enter the casino from the front door, it's like walking into a night club. The music is lively and you step onto a floor lit by multi-colored lights. The casino is small, more intimate than others you'll find on the strip. The size was ideal because it was easy for us to see each other when we wanted to play different games. They offer a wide variety of slot machines and tables, whatever your pleasure. Also, it was clean and didn't smell like an ashtray, great ventilation and air purifying system; this is a huge win for a person like me who suffers from allergies. The decor is modern and luxe, including a lounge area with sofas and lamps.

The Pool
SLS also has two dazzling pools. We visited, the Foxtail Pool, which offers tented cabanas for rent and for good measure a great DJ, who kept the party going. I've stayed at a lot of different resorts in Las Vegas and some of the best pools have lousy music, and it takes away from the atmosphere for me, but not here.

If you're like me and you prefer to have a poolside cocktail, the Foxtail Pool has two pools separated by a bar in the middle. I ordered a delicious Pina Colada $15. We didn't book a cabana, but we were comfortable with chaise lounges, plush sectional sofas and sun umbrellas; which were greatly appreciated in the hot Nevada sun.

The Food
SLS has seven restaurants and lounges, covering everything from authentic Asian cuisine to wood-burning brick oven pizza. We decided on gourmet burgers from Umami Burger.

Umami Burger - Beer Garden and Sports Book

We stopped at Umami Burger for a quick bite after the pool. We had Burgers of course, but we were so hungry, I forgot to take pictures. Sorry guys.

 What We Ate

The Manly had house cheddar-beer, bacon lardons, smoked-salt onions strings, Umami house ketchup, mustard spread $12.95. I had a plain burger with butter lettuce and onions $ 12.95. We also tried sweet potato fries $4.95, and truffle fries, with truffle cheese $5.95. We've eaten here before and I can also highly recommend the Truffle burger, it comes with truffle aioli, truffle cheese and truffle glaze $12.95. The food is good and I really liked the convenience of  not having to leave the hotel to find reasonably price food.

We had a great time at the SLS and certainly would not hesitate at the opportunity to stay there again in the near future.

This was not a sponsored post, just my thoughts!
